Let's decrypt each other

(Dec 2015/May 2016)

Target language:

Description:
Creation of math cryptograms in order to know each other
 (12/13 years old)

Work's steps:

Activity 1 : Decrypt me
We match pupils, so that each pupil has one or more penfriends, depending on the total number of pupils in both countries.
Each pupil creates a cryptogram from informations about his/her personality, using maths skills about numeracy. Pupils could insert their own picture, and illustrate their presentations with cliparts or photos.
Each pupil has to decrypt the text of his/her penfriend. Then he/she reads the text out and makes a short video from this reading. In each country all videos are gathered together by the teacher.

Activity 2 : About our schools/areas
Pupils present their schools through photos or videos, and real postcards are sent to partners to make discover our respective areas (each pupil sticks a picture of himself/herself on the postcard)
Pupils take some short videos of themselves in front of their favorite place in their respective towns, and all videos are gathered together by their teachers.

Activity 3 :  Decrypt some cultural treasures of our countries
Pupils work in groups. Each French group is associated to a Polish group.
Each group chooses the name of a native scientist, an artist, or a famous place in its own country, and he builds a cryptogram to make it discover to the partner group.
When the partner group receives the cryptogram, he has to decrypt it, and then he creates a Powerpoint presentation to illustrate this name, with pictures and explanations in English.

Bonus Activities
1) Chat sessions
Pupils could use the chat of the twinspace twice (at the beginning and at the end of the project)
2) Christmas
Pupils prepare a poster all together, writing Christmas wishes for the partners.
3) Easter
Pupils will send personalized Easter cards to their penfriends, and will join little personal surprises.

Expected results:

- a new great cooperation between France and Poland
- to link Maths, ICT and English creating funny activities
- to improve our pupils'skills in Maths and English
- to use ICT for the creation of several documents and for the communication between pupils
- Encouragement of pupils
