Let's discover Maths in Abstract Art

Description:
Discovery of the links between Abstract Art & Math
(12/13 years old)

Work's steps: 

Activity 1 : OUR PUPILS
a) Presentations between pupils
Each pupil creates a personal presentation (each country chooses the way it prefers to do it)
b) Our school, our area
The school will be presented with photos of pupils.
Then we will send real postcards to our partners.

Activity 2 : MATHS & ABSTRACT ART
Discovery of several artists
a) Jasper Johns
b) Kandinsky
c) Piet Mondrian
d) Victor Vasarely
Pupils will describe in English some works of Art their teachers will propose to them, in order to learn and use mathematical vocabulary about 2D and 3D shapes. They will work about the properties of these shapes too.
Pupils will also work in the ICT classroom using Geogebra and other softwares to build some personalized geometrical "works of art".

Activity 3 : DRAWING CONTEST
Each pupil will choose an artist among the 4 presented, and he will create a drawing.
The pupils drawings will be posted on the Twinspace
The Polish pupils will vote for their three favourite French drawings, and vice versa.

Activity 4 : BONUS ACTIVITIES
- French pupils will go and visit the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence
- Creation of wordles

Expected results:
- A new great cooperation between France and Poland
- Having fun with Maths, English and Art

- to link Maths and Arts
- to make pupils discover Abstract Art
- to use ICT to communicate
- to use Maths softwares to create personalized works or Art
- Encouragement of pupils
